Background
Kirby was born in Berryville, Arkansas, and spent part of his early childhood in Lima, Peru, as the son of missionaries. While living there, he learned to speak Spanish and was immersed in the culture every day.
After returning to the United States, Kirby lived in southwest Arizona for several years, where he and his family stayed closely connected with the Spanish-speaking community. Those years gave him a deep appreciation for the Spanish language and Hispanic culture from a very young age.
Kirby's interest in the law began in high school, when he was asked to compete in his school's Mock Trial competition. He hadn't thought about becoming an attorney before, but he quickly realized that the practice of law fit his interests and gave him a way to help people through difficult and uncertain times. By the time he graduated, he was fully committed to a legal career.
Education and credentials
Kirby earned his bachelor's degree in Political Science from Arkansas Tech University, with minors in History and German. He then attended the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law in Little Rock.
In law school, he took part in Bowen's Family Law Clinic as a certified student attorney (Rule XV), and he clerked for an estate planning firm in Maumelle, Arkansas. That work gave him an early foundation in family law and estate planning, both still part of his practice today.
Practice and approach
Kirby handles family law, immigration matters with an emphasis on removal defense, and estate planning. His family law work includes divorce, custody and visitation, child support, adoption, guardianships, paternity, and orders of protection. He also prepares wills, revocable living trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives.
Having grown up in a family affected by divorce, Kirby understands how personal and stressful those cases can be. His background in Spanish-speaking communities also shapes his immigration work.
